The kidz park Old Burleigh Rd, Broadbeach, Gold CoastThe beach is horribly windy this afternoon so a trip to the park is the better option. This park is a few blocks away from where we’re staying and is a favorite with my kids. Actually it’s a favorite with many people. I know this because it’s packed on the weekends with large groups gathering for a day of food and sun.
It’s a huge park right on the beach but protected by vegetation and sand dunes, making it quite comfortable even if the wind is too much on the beach. A lot of the park is grassed areas, terrific for games of frizz bee, cricket, kicking a footy about etc. There are some man-made hills that the kids love running up and rolling down.
Boys on the Pedal BikeThe big attraction of the southern end of the park is the large kids area. There are a few swings, a small ship to pretend to play in, a few toddler stations to push balls back and forward, slides, climbing frames, etc. But the favorite is the monorail pedal bikes. My 2 boys are too small to be able to handle these themselves, so it’s up to me to push them around on it. (An excellent exercise for the legs). Or I can get on it and pedal them around. They aren’t designed for adults though so it’s not the most comfortable ride. As your knees try to fight for space with your ears, you realize you really don’t have any dignity left. You too will do it though because those beautiful children of yours will thank you for it.
There’s a bike/ walking track that goes from one end to the other and along the way are exercise stations. There is a toilet block, but no BBQ facilities. That hasn’t stopped some families, who find bringing along a Webber is no hassle at all. I’ve even seen the family couch brought in for extra comfort on one of our previous trips to the park.
The Kurrawa Surf Club is located here and it’s a great place to sit and have a meal. I admit I haven’t done that for a while but I was never dissapointed with the meals or the view, they have a terrific deck that looks out over the ocean.
The northern part of the park also has some swings and climbing frames. It has a couple of electric BBQ’s, lots of benches and some undercover tables to sit at. At the very end of the park is a small toilet block. If you go on a Saturday or Sunday you’ll probably witness a very intense game of pétanque. Actually it’s a great park for getting a feel of our true Aussie multiculturalism.
