How You Can Assist: The Victorian Bushfire Victims

As I sit here in my coolish Brisbane room I can’t help but to keep thinking about the tragic circumstances and events that are unfolding every minute in Victoria. A standard bushfire is one thing but the immense destruction to lives and property that this bushfire has delivered is overwhelming. I doubt there isn’t a single person in this county that isn’t feeling effected by this tragedy.

I don’t mind telling you I hope they catch the people responsible and charge them with murder. It’s the only way to send out a strong enough message that perhaps might just make someone else think twice about lighting fires.

I have been thinking that I’d like to donate to assist, help, somehow do my bit. The thing is we currently are snowed with bills. I was perparing to organise donating houshold items that we could do without BUT the RedCross have said on their websites that this isn’t helpful. 1. Transporting the items is difficult and 2. They’d prefer to spend money with local businesses that are often in need of help themselves. A good enough answer I agree.

So my plan now is to start dropping in coins every time I pass a collection tin. Over the next few weeks / months I’m sure it’ll all add up and won’t be missed by my family. These tins are popping up everywhere, in a local Woolworths I noticed they are on every checkout.

The main appeal started by the Victorian Government is going through the Red Cross and you can check out their site for more information from making a donation to checking up on loved ones.

The Salvation Army is also taking donations, you can donate here.
