Review: Madagascar 2 – Westfield Shopping Centre Holiday Stage Show
Alex the Lion
I took the boys out to Garden City today to check out the Madagascar 2 stage show. I’m a regular school holiday free show mum so I’ve seen a lot of these and most I think are pretty average. Just for a little background I used to tour as a sound engineer for musical theatre BC (Before Children). This show is probably the best one I’ve seen yet…
The costumes are fantastic! I’m used to seeing well worn out things that possibly had a past life in a disguise shop. No these are very well made, clean and all together very impressive. The Photo’s don’t do them justice and I wish I had got a full shot of Marty the Zebra for you, but wasn’t to be.
Madadgascar Penguin
The story is a rather simple one. Alex the lion complains a lot that his friend Marty is the cause of all his problems mainly that he is no longer being pampered, fed or groomed. Then 2 penguins show up and try to convince Marty that Alex is an imposter and try to tie him up. Of course Marty the Zebra knows it is really his friend Alex the lion and all is well. It’s rather simple as I said BUT I don’t think there was a single kid in the audience taking any notice of the plot.
The music soundtrack throughout the show was jumping from one hit song to another and the kids were jumping with it. They loved it, Master Power was dancing around for all he was worth and the little one was mesmerized by the action. The whole show just powered on and I was very pleased that they didn’t go silly with volume.
Marty the Zebra
At first I kept being asked where the giraffe was and is the hippo coming out soon, so a bit of disappointment there. But at the end of the show I was told “That was great Mum!!” and I have to agree with kids.
You can catch Madagascar 2 at Garden City and Castledine this Thursday and Friday at 11am and 1pm. Then next week 12-18th January you’ll need to go to Chermside Westfield.
