Orleigh Park, West End

It was a particularly hot day so I decided to check out a park I’d heard of in West End. The special thing about this park apart from the fact that it has had a recent facelift is that it’s on the Brisbane River. On a hot day if the kids want a park, it never fails to find one next to the river. From my experience this is because you will almost always catch a breeze.

We did today and found it quite pleasant to play here in the middle of the day in 30 degree heat. I had forgotten my usual bottle of sun block so the kids just had hats on. Neither of them got burned because of the huge shady trees.

There are swings, slides and climbing frames galore. Loads of room to run about and you can have a BBQ here. There is running water and accessible toilets. Best of all this is a popular park for the younger kids and it seems from enquires I’ve been making, that there are always other kids here eager to play.

There are a lot of great parks in Brisbane like Anzac Park, Toowong, or Rafting Ground Park, Pullenvale. What’s your kids favorite park?

wepark1 wepark2 BBQ anyone?

  1. To add to the day’s adventure, could have a ride on the Brisbane River on the City Cat for something different. There is a ferry terminal at the end of the park.

  2. Interestingly this park you reviewed also has a rather sad history. Tracey Wigginton, 42, and three other women were convicted of stabbing Brisbane council worker Edward Baldock 27 times in 1989. They drove to Orleigh Park, alongside the Brisbane River, where Wigginton stabbed him 27 times and drank his blood. Known as “the Lesbian Vampire Killers” ….. perhaps not a story for the kids while they’re on the swings.
