Plate Spinning

Roll Up Roll Up the circus is in town!

Well this isn’t a real circus in the normal way of one big top and a hefty price tag. Nope this is my favorite kind, free kids entertainment put on this school holidays by the State Library of Queensland.

They have really outdone themselves and gone to a lot of trouble to make this a great experience for every child. We didn’t do or see probably half of what’s on offer, so you can definitely turn this outing into a full day if you wanted to.

Firstly a tip on getting to the State library; catch a bus! I love my car but the city can be a nightmare both cost wise and even in finding a park to begin with sometimes. We live in the western suburbs so for me it’s a simple thing to drive to Indooroopilly Shoppingtown. Park the car there and then take the 20min bus trip to the South Bank bus terminal. I can tell you this bus ride is almost an activity in itself. We don’t do it often so the kids find it all very exciting.

Craft

We went looking for the “Carnival Dressing Room” because the boys wanted to dress up. This is slightly misleading though unintentionally so I think. The dressing room is the craft area on the ground floor. Here volunteers will help you create a costume in the form of masks and hats. Some of the creations I saw were incredible, and all from a bit of paper and sticky tape.

My boys haven’t got the patience to sit and craft much yet so we were up soon looking for what’s next and found our way to the Circus skill workshop tent. We got to play with Hoops, juggling balls, and sticks, and the favorite…. plate spinning.

After a quick snack that I’d packed we went in to have a look at the corner. It isn’t part of the circus theme but very visible from the skills tent and it looked interesting. Back on the bus and my little guy fell fast asleep on the way home.

There is so much more to see and do than our little experience. Click here for more information on Circus at SLQ and make it a priority to go and see, it’s on until the 25th January.

Warmest,

Glenys
