Ice World Acacia RidgeOn my hunt around for new things for myself and my boys to try I discovered a tiny tots skate class for kids at Ice World Acacia Ridge. They take kids aged over 3years. I then discovered said class was only $5 dollars!!! Let’s face it you can’t buy lunch for that and I don’t think I’ve come across anything class wise that cheap. So M and I went off for his very first introduction to ice skating.
After we arrived we had to sign up although you are not obligated to go every week. It is a pay as you go situation, again something you don’t see very often. I don’t know about you but I’m used to paying by term for classes. So we paid our $5 dollars and I’m still thinking I’ve won the jackpot at that price.
Then we went to get M his hire skates which is included in the $5 dollar cost. It was at this point that my “aren’t I very clever” feeling dissipated. I had forgotten to bring socks. Well I’d forgotten to bring socks for M, I was wearing some with my sneakers. No problem I gave M my socks which actually gave him a snug fit in the skate.
So if you decide to try this make sure you wear warm clothes, pants, jeans and a jumper bring thick socks for the little kids and if you can find some warm little gloves for their hands. Fingers get a bit cold when they try to pick themselves up after falling over.
The class experience was fantastic. One of the girls found out it was M’s first time and completely looked after him. First she skated backwards and holding his hands asking him to just try to walk forward. This isn’t very easy to do as you might imagine. But he got a hold of that enough to then be given a type of frame that he could push along in front of him. After a while Victoria would take the frame away just a bit and he’d have to walk up to it.
All this happened in only half an hour. There were a couple of slips over but nothing that hurt and in the end M decided he really wanted to do this again. So I think Ice World Acacia Ridge will be seeing us again.
Cheers
