Games Online

Do you let your children access the home computer yet? I admit my kids have been having small amounts of computer time for over a year now. It’s all well supervised of course. M learned to operate a mouse to click on things on the screen from about 3 years. This just amazed me. So since then I’ve tried to find some websites with free kids games online that the boys can enjoy and here are some sites that we like.

1. http://www.youtube.com/ – OK it’s not a game BUT you’ll be amazed at what you can find that’ll interest the kids. For example we type in diggers and bulldozers. Now I’m a girl and no I don’t get it, but the kids just love watching random machinery doing stuff.

Searches on Elmo, Dora or any other TV show will also give you plenty of things to watch. This can come in very handy if you need a minute and the favorite show is about all they want.

2. http://www.sesamestreet.org You just have to check out this site. Not only does it have some excellent educational games, you can watch videos. And for a complicated site it loads very quickly. We have spent a good few hours making hats for Elmo, sorting dogs in the pet shelter and watching Zoe dance.

3. http://www.nickjr.com/games/index.jhtml This site is filled to the brim with games and activities from all the shows on Nick Jr. Apart from some clever online games you can print and make things like book marks or print a page to colour in. We like the Dora and Blue’s Clues stuff the most.

4. http://www.abc.net.au/children/ This is a site that I’ve seen advertised but only just started to visit with the kids. M & E are fans of the new Chuggington series and here they can use the mouse to colour in the trains and give them a tune up. Bottle top Bill activities are also popular.

5. http://www.clubpenguin.com/ Club Penguin is a virtual world where the kids create a penguin characture to represent themselves in this frosty world. They can waddle around and “talk” to other penguins, play games, and go on little adventures. We’ve only used the free version but there is a membership available also. Disney own and run this site and it has many safety online features.

6. If that’s not enough for you then here is a site with a load more game links: http://www.kidsolr.com/games_toys/index.html

I’m sure this little list is just the tippy tippy top of the free kids games online available, so please add any other ones that you like to visit in the comments area below. This way we can build a great resource for all of us.

Cheers
